What if multi-heritage families aren’t a challenge to Jewish continuity, but instead a part of its future?

18Doors (formerly InterfaithFamily) is a national Jewish organization dedicated to ensuring that multi-heritage individuals, couples, and families experience belonging in Jewish life. 18Doors uses the term “multi-heritage” as a more inclusive and accurate way to reflect the lived experiences of the people it serves, encompassing the cultural, familial, and personal dimensions that shape identity beyond religious difference alone.

Our Work

18Doors equips clergy, professionals, and lay leaders with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to foster inclusive, thriving communities—while building a broader ecosystem of partners and funders committed to this work.

Many in the Jewish communal sector approach multi-heritage families with fear. Fear that the Jewish population will “shrink.” Fear that our culture or practices will become diminished, diluted or lost. We are afraid of Christmas trees, Diwali, the Lunar New Year, and interfaith marriage itself.

What if, instead, we approached mixed heritage families as not only expanding our tent, but in fact, helping to construct a stronger and more vibrant Jewish community?

Our History

From a simple online magazine launched in 1998 focused on helping Jewish interfaith families, a non-profit mission has evolved. Edmund Case founded InterfaithFamily in 2001 which grew beyond its internet beginnings to provide content and connections, both online and in local communities. 18Doors is now focused on building the Jewish community’s capacity to engage and empower multi‑heritage individuals, couples, and families.

Our Name

There are many ways to connect with Jewish life. 18Doors reflects those different paths and possibilities, while 18 carries the Jewish meaning of chai, or life. Our work helps Jewish communities open more doors so multi-heritage couples and families can find meaningful ways to belong.

Let's create belonging, together.
