If you’re looking for guidance with a lifecycle event or to find inclusive Jewish events and meet other interfaith couples at your life stage, we’re here to help you. We are thrilled to have a Rukin Rabbinic Fellow, Rabbi Denise Handlarski, here in Toronto to support you.

Rabbi Denise along with our other Rukin Fellows throughout the U.S. and Canada offers programming for interfaith/intercultural couples and families to discuss relevant issues. We hope you’ll join herfor programs and workshops, which include opportunities to reflect on your backgrounds, differences and similarities and discuss your hopes, plans and dreams for the future. She is also available for one-on-one consultations and to refer you to local Jewish clergy and organizations that welcome interfaith/intercultural couples and families. Being part of an interfaith/Jew-ish/multi-faith/however-you-define-yourself couple can be challenging, but you don’t need to find the answers alone. This online workshop offers a safe environment to work on creating your religious/cultural lives together. It is intended for seriously dating, engaged, and newly married couples in their 20s and 30s.

To Bris or Not to Bris (National) – Online

Join 18Doors, Rabbi Simone Schicker, and a mohel (the person who performs the circumcision) to learn about different welcoming ceremonies and rituals open to expectant parents, as well about the differences between a Jewish ritual bris and a circumcision performed in a hospital. Together, we'll explore some of the reasons that couples may choose to forego ritual circumcision and discuss the different ways to honor other cultural backgrounds as you prepare to grow your family!

Meet Rabbi Denise Handlarski – Rukin Rabbinic Fellow

Rabbi Denise Handlarski is the founder and spiritual leader of the online community Secular Synagogue and the author of “The A-Z of Intermarriage” published by New Jewish Press/University of Toronto Press. She also works as a Jewish Doula and a university professor for teacher candidates. Denise is delighted to be a Rukin Rabbinic Fellow; she loves speaking to couples and families about how to create a dynamic and meaningful cultural life.
