$18.00Welcoming a baby into your life is such a joy and also comes with having to make a lot of decisions. For parents from different faith backgrounds, the decisions can be difficult to make. Do you have a baby naming ceremony, a bris (ritual circumcision) and/or some other ritual to welcome your baby into your family? Join Rabbi Simone Schicker who will share with expectant parents the different welcoming ceremonies and rituals interfaith couples may choose to have. We’ll be joined by Dr. Jonathan Meisel, a mohel, who will share details about a traditional bris and how it can be tailored to the individual family’s needs. Together, we’ll explore some of the reasons that couples may choose to forego ritual circumcision and discuss the different ways to honor other cultural backgrounds as you prepare to grow your family!
Rabbi Simone Schicker has been the spiritual leader of Temple B’nai Israel in Kalamazoo, Mich. since her ordination from HUC-JIR in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2018. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and was raised in an interfaith family. She is excited for the opportunity to learn from colleagues and teachers on the topic of interfaith engagement, and to bring her learning to all those in and around Southwest Mich. Rabbi Schicker is active in interfaith work in Kalamazoo and was recognized for her work as Clergy of the Year by ISAAC.
