Couples and Conversation: Building a Life Together as an Interfaith* Couple
*Intercultural, Dual-faith, Mixed Heritage, Jew-ish . . .
Being part of an interfaith/Jew-ish/multi-faith/however-you-define-yourself couple can be challenging, but you don’t need to find the answers alone. This online workshop offers a safe environment to work on creating your religious/cultural lives together. It is intended for seriously dating, engaged and newly married Jewish/interfaith couples in their 20s and 30s.
“Couples and Conversation” meets Mondays, June 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM PM CT (8:00-9:30 PM ET) and will be facilitated by Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss, 18Doors Rukin Rabbinic Fellowship Alumnus. The workshop is $54/couple and registration is required.
Young couples in their 20s and 30s are invited to participate if they are seriously dating, engaged or newly married, exploring the issue of religion/culture in their relationship, and:
- want to explore questions about their life together, including: How can we honor both of our heritages? Can we raise our children in one religion while exposing them to the other one? How will we celebrate holidays and lifecycle events? How can we talk to parents and other relatives about issues related to our interfaith relationship?
- want to discuss and begin to make decisions about their religious/spiritual/cultural life together with support from other couples and a non-judgmental facilitator
- want guidance from a facilitator who has experience working with interfaith couples and helping them to address actual and potential challenges particular to them
- want to get to know and develop relationships with other interfaith couples who are thinking about similar issues

Meet Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss
Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss was ordained by HUC in Cincinnati, OH in 1999, with an MA in Jewish Education and Hebrew Letters. He studied at HUC in Jerusalem and LA, as well as the UJ Rabbinic program. In his first pulpit at Temple Emanuel as the Rabbinic Director of Education and Outreach, he served the Jewish community of Birmingham, AL, for 12 years.
Rabbi Scott is the founding Rabbi of Shma Koleinu in Houston, TX. Shma Koleinu is a synagogue without walls and without requiring a financial or membership commitment, that serves all Jews, Jewish families and those who love them. He especially loves working with interfaith couples and families, because they are often the most open to what Judaism, Jewish ritual and tradition can offer.
